Hopefully this can be a place for Kapur employees to ask questions, share tricks and tips and ultimately get the most out of our investment in Civil 3d 2010.
Blogging is obviously something new to Kapur.
Please give it a try and post your thoughts.
Lets start it of with a general question.
What type of problems are you experiencing working with C3D?

Getting the "scanning the drawing" message in the lower left hand corner whenever I do any type of command. The only solution I've found is to shut down the computer and restart.
ReplyDeleteSlow DWG drawing and "Scanning" message
ReplyDeleteMy collegue has found an interesting problem in one of the drawings he worked on (AutoCAD 2010). Every operation on this rather large file started with a delay (about 10 seconds) accompanied with a progressbar "Scanning the drawing".
We have checked all usual suspects - purged the drawing, annotation scales, loaded applications, references - but nothing helped. It was strange that the same drawing worked OK on another computer. So we have also tested the influence of the graphics card but again - no success.
Finally we have compared the system variables on both computers and found the culprit. The variable SHOWLAYERUSAGE was "on" on the slow computer. Switching it off has fixed the problem.

The ESRI GIS software version we are using does not recognize the C3D dwg files yet. To display them, I've converted copies back to an AutoCAD 2007 format. It's an easy process, but it means that, presently, we can't display C3D files live through the GIS. I suspect that will change with new releases of the ESRI software.
ReplyDeleteGreg my setting for showlayerusage is (0). Is that fast or slow?
ReplyDeleteC3D 2010 works fine on my computer unless I want to pan or zoom which is slower than 09 or 08. I was not one of the lucky ones who got a certified video card or any memory upgrade like was planned.
ReplyDeleteC3D 2010 did damage C3D 2009 requiring reinstall and 09 still complains. I think 10 overwrote an 09 DLL.
I run Windows XP SP3 with the "/3GB switch" so I can open normal files and print large color PDFs. I can see the VM usage exceed 2.2 GB regularly which would crash (out of memory) C3D without the /3GB switch. The /3GB switch does have the reported consequence of making XP less stable but I have not seen this happen.
